This Privacy Policy explains how SNK INVESTMENTS LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the TheBrief mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Who We Are

TheBrief is a mobile news application that delivers personalized, AI-generated audio news clips to users. TheBrief is operated by SNK INVESTMENTS LLC, based in the United States.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to give you a good experience.

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google Single Sign-On (SSO), we receive your name and email address from your chosen provider. We do not receive or store your password.
• Topic preferences. The categories you select during onboarding (e.g., AI & Tech, Finance, World) so we can personalize your news.

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

• Usage data. Which stories you play, save, like, share, or skip; session length; the topics you engage with most. We use this to improve recommendations.
• Device information. Device type, operating system version, app version, language, and time zone.
• Diagnostics. Basic crash data provided by Apple's built-in App Store Connect crash reporting, which we use to fix bugs. We do not use any third-party crash reporting or analytics service.

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your contacts, photos, location, microphone audio, or browsing history.
• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not use your data for advertising or share it with advertisers.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Provide and personalize the App, including assembling your Daily Brief.
• Recommend stories on topics you've shown interest in.
• Improve audio quality, app stability, and user experience.
• Communicate with you about service updates, important changes, or in response to support requests.
• Comply with legal obligations.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of trusted third parties to operate the App:

• Apple Sign in with Apple — for authentication. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Google Sign-In — for authentication. See Google's Privacy Policy.
• Vercel — to host audio files (via Vercel Blob Storage) and serve the App's backend.

We do not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or crash reporting services. These providers above have access only to the information necessary to perform their functions and are bound by their own privacy obligations.

5. Data Retention

• Account data is retained for as long as your account is active.
• Usage data is retained for up to 24 months and then deleted or anonymized.
• Crash logs are retained for up to 90 days.

If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your account and associated data.
• Export a copy of your data.
• Opt out of certain data uses.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

6.1 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information is collected and to request deletion. We do not sell personal information.

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (to provide the App), legitimate interests (to improve the App), consent (where required), and legal obligations.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected information from a child, we will delete it. Contact us if you believe we have inadvertently done so.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls on our systems. No system is 100% secure, but we work hard to protect your data.

9. International Data Transfers

If you are outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States under appropriate safeguards.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the App or by email. The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version.
